Concrete cutting is a process of sawing, drilling and removal of concrete surfaces performed by skilled professionals which are employing saws such as diamond impregnated blades. Opposite from the old- fashioned dusty “jack hammer” method, modern cutting is precise and leaves a smooth, attractive cuts without any sign of dust or mess. Learn the differences between cutting techniques and when you can benefit from wall sawing or what core drilling really means.

What Exactly Wall Sawing is?
Wall sawing is one of the most challenging techniques that can be applied for different purposes. We practise wall sawing every time we need new openings such as doors or windows in concrete surfaces, usually no more than 12″ thick but in some cases up to 24″ thick. This is accomplished by using circular saw blades that attach to a track on the concrete we want to cut. During the concrete modifications we can include enormous 30″ or even larger diameter diamond blades that can cut 12″ or more of concrete all of the way through from one side. This fact speaks that concrete sawing cannot easily be done by ‘’yourself’’. The efficiency of the project depends upon the type of the foundation, the proper functionality of the blade used during the process and the effectiveness of the operator while using the equipment.

Necessity of Core Drilling
Homeowners that build additions on to their home that have basements or cellars commonly find they need to cut into their existing concrete foundation to add an entry or passage between the new and existing basements. It is much easier and in most cases less expensive to have these drills performed during the construction process and not after. Sometimes core drills are necessity in creating holes without causing damage through reinforced concrete, block, brick or stone.

Core Drilling is the process of creating perfectly round holes through concrete walls and floors. If not performed properly it can leave uneven cracks over the surface. The length of the holes may vary from 1″ to 12″ round, but average 5″ for most homeowner applications. What’s important to keep in mind as soon as you notice concrete cracks, then call a professional to complete the project. Same as with any trade – a professional concrete contractor will make a huge difference.

Slab or Wall sawing technique
Wall sawing, also known as flat sawing, is the most common method to cut horizontal flat foundations such as floors, asphalt and pavement. It’s a quick and safe method which can be performed with a diamond blade that is applied on a back side on the machine that requires only one operator. Flat sawing can efficiently cut up to 30 inches in depth, however, only 6” are needed for homeowner applications. This method is the perfect approach to making opening in concrete foundations in concrete floors whenever we need to replace a broken water pipe or add a sewer line.

No matter what your project is, efficient concrete cutting takes time and can’t be always performed with DIY techniques as you are exposing yourself to some very serious danger. Instead, find a reputable concrete cutting company for a quick, precise and hazard free results to provide clean and straight edges adhering to rigid safety standards and policies .
